Titan Fitness Mixed Martial Arts students Shawn Slater and Derek Janssen competed at the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) event in Newark, New Jersey last Saturday, April 4. As this was the first competition for both of them, they competed in the novice division. They both were victorious in their first two submission grappling matches advancing into the quarterfinals. Though their respective tournaments ended at that point, this was an excellent result for both of the the first-time submission grappling competitors. We at Titan Fitness congratulate both Shawn and Derek on their efforts at NAGA.

Muay Thai, translated into English as Thai Boxing, is the national sport of Thailand. It is well known for its devastating kicks, knees, and elbows. It is the primary stand up system trained by most UFC and other professional MMA fighters. This program focuses not only on the kickboxing elements of Muay Thai (punches, kicks, knees, elbows), but also heavily on the importance of the clinching (tie up) positions in this sport. The high intensity training in this class will result in superior conditioning for the martial athlete to be used in self-defense or in Muay Thai sport competition.
