Titan Adds New Boxing Instructors to Staff

Titan Fitness & Martial Arts is proud to announce the addition of Osahon Omo-Osagie (“Os”) and Michael Kowalski. Os will be overseeing the Boxing II while Mike will be running the Boxing I class during the summer semester slated to begin May 17, 2010. The boxing program will be overseen by Head Boxing Instructor and Penn State Boxing Coach, Dave Vacco. Michael Kowalski

Michael Kowalski is a boxing instructor at Titan Fitness & Martial Arts. Mike has been boxing since 2006. Formerly, Michael was a student in the Titan Boxing program. Mike went on to become a member of the Penn State Boxing Team. He competed for the team during the 2009-2010 Collegiate Boxing season and fought five times. He took third place in the ECBA Regional Tournament. April 26, 2010

Tim Carpenter Seminar at Titan

On Sunday, April 25, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and MMA Professional Fighter, Tim Carpenter paid Titan a visit and conducted a BJJ/MMA seminar. The seminar was well received by the students of both the Gi and No-Gi training sessions. We look forward to having Tim back again in the near future for another day of great instruction from one of the finest practitioners in this part of the United States. At the seminar, Titan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu student, Alex Romanenko, was promoted to the rank of Blue Belt. Congratulations from all of us at Titan for this accomplishment. April 14, 2010
Titan to Host BJJ/MMA Seminar

Titan Fitness & Martial Arts is proud to be hosting a one-day seminar with TIM CARPENTER a martial artist for over 12 years, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, and an undefeated Professional Mixed Martial Artist. The seminar will take place Sunday, April 25 from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The 1 to 3 pm session will be Gi training. With the 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm session comprising of No-Gi training. Tim has been a Pan Am BJJ champion, a Gracie National and Arnold Classic BJJ Champion, and a NAGA and Grappler’s Quest Champion. Additionally, he has won both state and Junior National Judo Championships. In 2007, he was an ADCC competitor, an international competition involving professional athletes who have been successful at the highest levels of jiu-jitsu, wrestling, judo, sambo, shooto, and mixed martial arts. The seminar offers four hours of instruction with a two-hour Gi session and a two-hour No-Gi session. This seminar is reasonably priced at $50/student for both sessions. Students may train in either one of the two sessions for only $25. Register with us as soon as possible as spots are limited. Penn State Boxers Excel at Nationals

Two Penn State boxers earned All-American status at the NCBA National Championships at West Point this past weekend. Long-time Titan members, AJ Williams (165 lbs.) and Jay Petraitis (175 lbs.) both advanced to the semi-finals of their respective weight classes to become All-Americans. We at Titan Fitness & Martial Arts would like to congratulate the fighters. Additionally, kudos must go out to Penn State boxing coach and Titan Boxing instructor, Dave Vacco, in guiding his fighters to such an excellent season and result at Nationals that also included two other national qualifiers, Matt Roy and Justin Portal. Free Rolling to Start at Titan

Starting this Sunday, March 21, free roll sessions will meet each Sunday at 2 pm. Titan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Bill Algeo, will be supervising the sessions. You are invited to roll with other classmates and students from other classes to improve your ground game. These session are free of charge. We look forward to seeing all of you this Sunday at 2 pm. Titan Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Official Start
Titan’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class will officially kick off on Tuesday, March 16 at 8 pm. Classes will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 8 pm to 9 pm and Friday from 5 pm to 6 pm. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The ProgramBrazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport and a form of self-defense that focuses on grappling, especially ground fighting. BJJ instruction emphasizes the use of ground techniques, submission holds such as joint locks, and body positions. Students will train both gi (uniform) and no-gi. BJJ has become the most prominent grappling style in the sport of mixed martial arts such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) and Strikeforce. As students improve, they can achieve rank and train for competition in both submission grappling and mixed martial arts. Titan BJJ classes are taught by Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Purple Belt, Bill Algeo.
